Haitian Relief Effort; Local Groups & Individuals Can Help

It seems silly to say it aloud, but sometimes there is so much going on that it's difficult to focus on one thing to write about.  Combine that with my schedule and many projects and it makes it more difficult.

Haiti Needs Help 

So many people and organizations are trying to help the earthquake victims in Haiti and get information to their families in other parts of the world who don't know what has happened to family members, that I wont' post a lot on that.  Suffice it to say, my day job (tri-cap.org, the area's anti-poverty agency) is one of the organizations helping to mobilize resources.  Contact me if you're in the Medford, Malden, Everett, MA area and want to know more, especially if you can donate medical supplies (contact me for a list; just comment to this post & I'll get it). 

Or, write a check to the Tri-City Haitian Relief Effort and send it to Century Bank, 140 Ferry Street, Malden, MA 02148.  Or, by 1/29/10, send it to Tri-CAP, 110 Pleasant Street, Malden, MA 02148.  Your check will be deposited to the Century Bank relief account. The money will be added to Tri-CAP staff and board contributions to cover the cost of a plane ticket to Haiti ($500) so medical personnel can go there and aid earthquake victims.

The fund was established by local Haitian churches, Tri-CAP, and Century Bank.  Local Haitian nurses, doctors, and LPNs from our tri-city churches will be going to Haiti on 2/6/10 to bring aid directly to earthquake victims living on the streets in Port-au-prince.  Those going have agreed to take only one change of clothes with them.  They will carry suitcases filled with medical supplies.
